Miki Bekkari

Meet Miki. I own and operate Blissful Spoon, a local “pop-up” bakery in Bend, Oregon along with my husband Kamal. We currently offer the widest range of gluten-free dessert options in Bend at the local Farmer’s Markets. Our business will be morphing into a full service restaurant in the Fall of 2020, when we move into the new building going up next to Bend Brewing Company! Our bakery will continue to expand, and we are also excited to add Mediterranean tapas to the food offerings in Downtown Bend. We have both been fortunate to live and work in various countries around the world (France, Morocco, Canada, Spain, Lebanon, Australia, US) and each of us bring a unique style of cuisine to the business.

I am originally from Northern California (Humboldt County), and grew up on my family’s rural produce farm which supplied local markets and restaurants. Kamal spent his early childhood in Morocco, and as an adult in Canada, the US and Australia. We both have a love of good food, and a firm conviction that — no matter what a person’s nutritional needs or allergy restrictions — everyone deserves to have good quality, tasty food!

Blissful Spoon’s granola began as the heart of the business. We source quality, non-GMO, organic ingredients from local producers, and freeze-dried or naturally dried fruit that does not have any added sugar, oil or salt. There are no grains or oats in any of the blends, and no added sugar or salt. And so, in addition to being tasty for any palate, the Granola Crunch blends have great macros, and fit into paleo / vegan / vegetarian / non-GMO / gluten-free / oat-free / keto-friendly diets.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
We have three children, daughters ages 8 and 10, and a 20-year-old son, and extended family all over the world.

Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
We love creating our family recipes for others to enjoy. We also love the challenge of making our gluten-free options taste like they’re not gluten-free, and seeing the joy on people’s faces when they discover the number of choices they have.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Lemon Tree, Miyagi, Himalayan Bites, Primal Cuts

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
After spending several years perfecting our granola recipe and planning the business, we moved the family from the Gold Coast, Australia to Bend, Oregon in March 2018, and launched Blissful Spoon three months later in June 2018.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Right now I’m super happy to be in Bend. It’s such a beautiful part of our planet, and I’m grateful that we moved here and can be part of it.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Don’t be afraid to try something new – whether it’s a life path choice or just a small piece of gluten-free cake.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I’d love to visit SE Asia, which is something I haven’t done yet.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Vanilla, Jasmine, Cardamom
